[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Amid the cold wave warning, reports of 'icicle removal' are flooding in from various parts of Gyeonggi Province.

According to the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters on the 1st, a total of 8 requests for icicle removal were received across Gyeonggi Province in one day on the 30th of last month, when the first cold wave warning of the year was issued.

Looking at the cases received, the reports of icicle removal continued throughout the day, starting with a request to remove icicles at the Danong Underpass in Dasan-dong, Namyangju City at 2:24 p.m. on the 30th, followed by an apartment shopping area in Bucheon City at 6:09 p.m., and the Dangmal Underpass in Gunpo City at 11:58 p.m. on the same day.

The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters explained that the local fire stations immediately dispatched teams and safely removed the icicles.

They urged people not to attempt to remove icicles themselves, especially when they occur in hard-to-reach high places such as the upper parts of buildings, and to call 119 for assistance.

Hong Jang-pyo, the Safety Officer of the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters, said, "To prevent icicle-related safety accidents, it is important to inspect in advance whether there are any leaks in rooftop gutters or pipes, and to carry out pre-snow removal work to prevent icicles from forming as snow melts."
