[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] Hyundai Heavy Industries Group has successfully commercialized a ship electric propulsion solution developed with proprietary technology for the first time in Korea.

On the 29th, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group built and held a naming ceremony for the "Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Convergence Electric Propulsion Smart Ship" equipped with an eco-friendly and high-performance electric propulsion solution at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, Ulsan City, and Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency.

The electric propulsion solution, developed by Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, is a core facility for electric propulsion vessels. It features low-carbon, high-efficiency technologies such as engine variable speed control and optimal energy control systems based on a DC-based LNG (liquefied natural gas) dual-fuel engine and an energy storage system (ESS).
