Hometown Love Donation System Supports Regional Vitality and Welfare Improvement Projects
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Jeollanam-do Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) announced on the 30th that it has begun full-scale preparations by launching focused promotional activities ahead of the full implementation of the ‘Hometown Love Donation System’ on January 1 next year.
Since the 29th, the county has participated in the 2022 Jeollanam-do Return-to-Farming and Fishing Villages Hometown Love Expo held at the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT Center) in Seoul, introducing the ‘Hometown Love Donation System’ to urban residents and returnees to rural areas visiting the expo, encouraging much interest and participation.
The Hometown Love Donation System is a scheme where donors can contribute a certain amount to their hometown or a desired local government, excluding their registered residence, and receive tax deductions and return gifts, while the donations are used for welfare improvement projects in the donated area.
Donors can contribute up to 5 million KRW annually, with full tax deductions for amounts up to 100,000 KRW, and a 16.5% tax deduction benefit for the amount exceeding 100,000 KRW. They can also receive return gifts such as local specialties and regional love gift certificates within 30% of the donation amount.
Goheung-gun is preparing for the implementation of the Hometown Love Donation System starting January 1, 2023, by publicly announcing the “Ordinance on the Collection and Operation of Hometown Love Donations” for legislative notice until the 10th of next month, ahead of the ordinance enactment.
Additionally, through multifaceted promotional activities both online and offline such as the county website, YouTube, banners, and flyers, the county is widely informing residents, tourists, expatriates, and urban residents about the Hometown Love Donation System, and is making all-out efforts to create an atmosphere encouraging donation participation.
A county official said, “To ensure the successful implementation of the Hometown Love Donation System, we will systematically prepare related preliminary procedures such as selecting distinctive return gifts and discovering fund projects, and do our best so that the benefits of the system are evenly distributed to all residents.”
Goheung-gun views the Hometown Love Donation System as a catalyst that will expand local finances and invigorate the regional economy, and is accelerating preparations for fostering a sound donation culture and the successful establishment of the system.
