[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the 100 Won Association (Chairman Kim Heeman)'s 'Sharing, Beautiful Companionship' continued without fail this year as well.

The 100 Won Association, which practices a 'grassroots sharing culture,' announced that on the 25th at 11 a.m., it held a scholarship award ceremony at Hwangryonggang Waterfront Park Plaza in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, coinciding with its 24th anniversary.

Scholarships totaling 5.9 million KRW were awarded to 24 recipients: 11 university students, including Yoon Miyeon (2nd year at Chonnam National University), each receiving 300,000 KRW, and 13 middle and high school students, including Hong Yujin (3rd year at Chonnam Technical High School), each receiving 200,000 KRW.

They were selected based on recommendations from five district offices in Gwangju, and the scholarships were delivered via non-face-to-face bank transfers.

This year marks the 23rd time the 100 Won Association scholarships have been awarded, with a total of 1,102 recipients to date, including 251 university students and 851 middle and high school students, amounting to 187 million KRW.

Yoon Miyeon, who received the scholarship on behalf of the recipients, said, "Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic downturn, I am deeply humbled by the members' unwavering dedication to providing scholarships." She added, "As I enter society, I want to live as a person who always thinks of neighbors in need, volunteers, and practices sharing."

Chairman Kim Heeman expressed in a written greeting, "I extend my respect and gratitude to the 100 Won Association members who have consistently practiced sharing by contributing 100 won daily for the past 24 years." He continued, "The 100 Won Association will now launch a membership doubling campaign to serve as a catalyst for an unstoppable grassroots sharing culture."

At the end of last year, the 100 Won Association was recognized by Gwangju City as an organization contributing to the enhancement of citizen happiness and was selected as an 'Inductee to the Hall of Fame,' with an exhibit displayed in the first-floor lobby of City Hall.
