[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] Isu Chemical is set to supply raw materials for all-solid-state batteries.
On the 18th, Isu Chemical announced that it has signed a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Heesung Catalyst for mutual cooperation in the development of all-solid-state batteries. Isu Chemical will supply lithium sulfide (Li2S), a sulfide-based solid electrolyte raw material for all-solid-state batteries, to Heesung Catalyst.
Isu Chemical previously signed agreements for lithium sulfide with EcoPro BM and Solid Power in April and June. The company plans to identify demand and potential customers for lithium sulfide and strengthen efforts to advance related businesses.
Heesung Catalyst is the first domestic company to produce catalysts for automotive exhaust gas purification and has been continuously promoting eco-friendly material businesses, including recently developing electrode catalysts used as key components in fuel cell systems.
Isu Chemical is the only company in Korea capable of supplying lithium sulfide. At the end of last year, it unveiled lithium sulfide samples at the 'Korea Industrial Technology R&D Exhibition' and aims to complete a pilot plant for semi-production of lithium sulfide in the second half of this year. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 20 tons of lithium sulfide.
Ryu Seung-ho, CEO of Isu Chemical, said, "We hope this will be a starting point for a win-win partnership between the two companies for mass production of all-solid-state batteries," adding, "Since we agreed to cooperate to improve the quality of solid electrolytes, we will actively collaborate to upgrade the technological capabilities of both companies."
