[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] President Yoon Suk-yeol stated on the 10th regarding the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Cargo Solidarity general strike, "The government must uphold the law, principles, and neutrality for labor and management to autonomously develop the capacity to resolve their issues."
On the morning of the same day, while heading to the Yongsan Presidential Office building, President Yoon responded to reporters' question about the claim that the Cargo Solidarity strike is due to anti-labor policies by saying, "If you make up words, what can't you do?"
President Yoon's view is that "The government must maintain law, principles, and neutrality in labor-management issues so that labor and management can autonomously build the capacity to resolve problems." He emphasized, "If the government constantly intervenes and follows public opinion deeply in labor-management issues, the capacity and environment for labor and management to amicably resolve problems will not be accumulated at all."
Meanwhile, according to government statistics, as of 5 p.m. on the third day of the Cargo Solidarity collective transport refusal, approximately 8,100 out of an estimated total of 22,000 union members held rallies at over 160 locations in 14 regions nationwide.
