[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coway (CEO Lee Hae-seon and Seo Jang-won) announced on the 8th that it held an event to create and donate the 'Coway Clean School Classroom Forest No. 1' at Guro Nam Elementary School in Seoul.
The 'Coway Clean School Classroom Forest' project, launched for the first time this year, is an environmental education program for elementary school students and part of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management activities aimed at creating social value. Two schools are selected each year to receive donations of air-purifying plants, providing students with a healthy educational environment close to nature and raising awareness of the importance of environmental protection.
Coway selected Guro Nam Elementary School in Guro-gu, Seoul, as the 'Coway Clean School Classroom Forest No. 1' and donated a total of 650 air-purifying plants to 26 classes. Each classroom received 25 air-purifying plants along with environmental education materials designed to improve awareness of environmental issues such as the climate crisis and global warming.
Students will be responsible for planting and caring for the plants in pots made from leftover fabric from disposable masks and recycled transparent PET bottles. Additionally, a simple air purifier-making class will be conducted to help students learn about the principles of air purifiers and the importance of clean air.
Going forward, Coway plans to continuously donate air-purifying plants to expand the number of schools participating in the 'Clean School Classroom Forest' and plant trees in forests corresponding to the number of students participating in environmental education, thereby sustaining students' engagement and interest in environmental education.
Lee Hae-seon, Vice Chairman of Coway, said, "We hope that the Coway Classroom Forest will serve as an opportunity for students to develop interest in environmental protection and the value of nature," adding, "As a company that provides clean water and air, Coway will continue to lead various activities to practice ESG management."
