Ministry of Education Launches 2022 Remote Video Career Mentoring Classes
37 Disabled Workers from Various Fields Selected as Mentors
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education announced that starting from the 17th, it will begin the "2022 Remote Video Career Mentoring" classes through the Disabled Career Mentoring Group to provide various career exploration opportunities for students with disabilities.
This project has been promoted since 2020 to expand career exploration opportunities for students with disabilities and to enhance their understanding of the professional world. It targets students with disabilities enrolled in middle schools, high schools, vocational schools, and special schools (levels).
The mentoring group consists of workers with disabilities engaged in various occupational fields. This year, 37 workers with disabilities from 20 occupational fields including culture, arts, sports, teaching, and IT, covering 4 types of disabilities, will serve as mentors. They conduct interactive online classes with students regardless of infectious disease situations or the geographical conditions of schools.
The career mentoring group will provide career and academic information and counseling through 35 sessions of career mentoring until November 25. The Ministry of Education will provide convenience support such as support personnel, sign language interpreters, and stenographers according to the characteristics of the mentors' disability types.
The Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled will recommend employed persons with disabilities who are actively working in various fields as mentors and support the use of human and material resources to the fullest extent, including paying tuition fees.
Students wishing to participate in the remote video career mentoring can apply on the remote video career mentoring website up to 2 hours before the class on the day of the class, either by class or individually, according to each mentor's class schedule.
Ryu Hyesook, Director of the Student Support Bureau at the Ministry of Education, said, "We hope that the remote video career mentoring for students with disabilities will be a stepping stone for them to explore their careers and design their dreams," and added, "Going forward, the Ministry of Education will actively work to strengthen interdepartmental cooperation with the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Ministry of Health and Welfare to develop career competencies that enable students with disabilities to successfully transition from school to society."
