Kim In-ho, Chairman of Seoul Metropolitan Council, Announces Candidacy for 8th Term Dongdaemun-gu Mayor

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim In-ho, Chairperson of the Seoul Metropolitan Council (Democratic Party, Dongdaemun 3), declared his candidacy for the 8th term mayor of Dongdaemun District at a rally held in front of the Dongdaemun District Office at 4 p.m. on the 4th.

Chairperson Kim, who served as the Chair of the Finance and Economy Committee during the 7th Seoul Metropolitan Council, the youngest Vice Chairperson in the 8th term, and currently the youngest Chairperson in the 9th term, is also serving as the 17th Chairperson of the Korea Association of City and Provincial Councils. After graduating from elementary school, he moved to Seoul, studied while working during the day and attending school at night, passed the qualification exam, graduated from graduate school, and completed doctoral coursework, demonstrating his passion for learning.

Starting his political career in Dongdaemun District, Chairperson Kim has nurtured his dreams and hopes here, progressing through three terms as a Seoul Metropolitan Council member and eventually becoming the Chairperson of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, serving the 10 million citizens of Seoul.

Over the past 12 years, serving as a Seoul Metropolitan Council member and Chairperson, he has closely understood the current issues of Seoul and Dongdaemun District. Moreover, during his tenure as Chairperson, he has always respected the will of Seoul citizens. In particular, he is working to create a Seoul that prioritizes the economy and people's livelihoods.

Chairperson Kim, in cooperation with fellow council members, secured a budget of approximately 1.09 trillion won from Seoul Metropolitan Government and attracted it to Dongdaemun District, resulting in the district transforming into a more livable city day by day.

Chairperson Kim stated, "The educational environment, local economy, residential environment, and infrastructure for culture, sports, and arts in Dongdaemun District are still insufficient. I will not only make Dongdaemun a representative district of eastern Seoul but also develop it into Seoul’s top central city."

At the press conference, Chairperson Kim announced several key policy directions on a broad scale.

First, to create a happy 'education and cultural city' where education is integrated with life. Second, to build an 'economic city' overflowing with quality jobs. Third, to establish a 'happy city' where mothers have no worries about pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare. Fourth, to make a 'safe city' for 340,000 residents. Fifth, to develop a 'smart city' centered on eco-friendly transportation for future generations.

Lastly, the economic underdevelopment of Dongdaemun District and the difficult living conditions of its residents remain the biggest challenges that a new district mayor must solve together with the citizens. Chairperson Kim In-ho said he would focus on policies that residents can truly feel and practical policies that can be enjoyed daily in their everyday lives.
