Daegu City and Yeungjin College Boost 'Food Service Startups'

Daegu City and Yeungjin College Boost 'Food Service Startups' Students at Yeongjin College are currently taking classes related to food service entrepreneurship in the newly established cooking practice room this year.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Daegu City and Yeungjin College have stepped up to support the local food service industry, which is facing a management crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

They are taking the lead in full-scale startup support by opening the ‘Food Service Startup Grow Dream Academy’ for prospective and early-stage entrepreneurs entering the Daegu food service industry.

This academy provides intensive education covering the entire process of starting a food service business, from idea commercialization and menu development to hygiene management and tax accounting, operating as a professional program for startups.

The ‘Food Service Startup Grow Dream Academy’ plans to operate programs divided into three food service sectors.

The 1st term program (May-June) will focus on the ‘Bakery Cafe’ sector, the 2nd term (July-August) on the ‘Takeout and Delivery’ sector, and the 3rd term (October-November) on the ‘Vegan Restaurant’ sector. Each term will educate 35 participants, and applications are open until the 22nd.

Each term’s education will cover a wide range of topics including trend and commercial district analysis, business strategy and marketing, special lectures on successful startups, followed by menu development, team-based field training, mentor group consulting, and startup competitions.

Participants must be citizens who have started a food service business within one year in Daegu or plan to start within six months. The education is completely free of charge.

Kang Byung-ju, head of the Hotel Aviation Tourism Department, said, “As interest in food service startups is increasing in the post-COVID era, we will do our best to operate the program so that food service field experts, mentor groups, and public-private-academic cooperation can support successful startups.”
