Free Health Screening for Bottom 50% Health Insurance Holders Born in Odd-Numbered Years
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 23rd that it will conduct the national cancer screening project year-round to detect cancer, the leading cause of death, early and increase the treatment rate to reduce economic burden and mortality.
Common cancers in Korea such as stomach cancer, liver cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer, and lung cancer can be detected early by relatively simple methods, and early treatment can cure more than 90% of cases.
This year, the national cancer screening targets are those born in odd-numbered years: ▲ stomach cancer for men and women aged 40 and over ▲ breast cancer for women aged 40 and over ▲ cervical cancer for women aged 20 and over ▲ lung cancer for men and women aged 54 to 74 who are high-risk for lung cancer ▲ colorectal cancer for men and women aged 50 and over (annual) ▲ liver cancer for men and women aged 40 and over who are high-risk for liver cancer (semiannual), regardless of birth year.
The screening institutions in the area include Shin & Sok Internal Medicine Clinic, Shin Internal Medicine Clinic, Seongeunhyo Nursing Hospital, Geochang General Internal Medicine Clinic, Geochang Samsung Internal Medicine Clinic, Arim Medical Foundation Seogyeong Hospital, Park Internal Medicine Clinic, Jungang Medical Hospital, and Geochang Red Cross Hospital.
Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang-gun, said, “The national cancer screening rate has significantly decreased due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), raising concerns about the deterioration of residents' health. Through national cancer screening, cancer can be detected early and treated, so I hope those eligible will get screened as soon as possible.”
