[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Dong-gu, Gwangju (Mayor Im Taek) announced that it is recruiting local cultural and artistic performance teams to participate in the stage performances of the ‘18th Nostalgic Chungjang Festival’ to be held from November 3 to 7.

According to Dong-gu on the 17th, this year, it was decided to hold a safe festival by combining face-to-face and non-face-to-face events, providing opportunities for local cultural artists to showcase creative performances through programs such as the ‘Chungjang Veranda Concert’ held in apartments in the district and the citizen-participatory ‘Chungjang Alley Festival.’

The Chungjang Festival this year, conducted in strict compliance with social distancing quarantine guidelines, is fully preparing for a special cultural community event that offers healing and recovery through memories.

In particular, through the local festival held for the first time in a while, it provides opportunities for local cultural artists to perform various performances including singing, playing instruments, dancing, as well as magic and mime.

Dong-gu has been exploring various methods to strengthen the festival’s competitiveness and maintain sustainability, such as proposing to Gwangju City and the government to hold the ‘Local Cultural Artists Online Supporters’ for supporting local cultural artists and discovering and producing non-face-to-face content this year.

The recruitment period is until the 5th of next month, and applications are open to groups or individuals who have participated in various festival events at least three times in the past three years.

Applications can be submitted via email by referring to the Chungjang Festival website and the Dong-gu Office website. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Chungjang Festival Secretariat.

Mayor Im Taek of Dong-gu said, “I hope that local cultural artists who have brightened the Chungjang Festival will be able to fully demonstrate their talents and capabilities through the festival after a long time,” and added, “Dong-gu will continue to support local cultural artists in various ways and provide opportunities for performances.”
