[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Geoje City in Gyeongnam announced on the 30th that it has been selected for a total of 43 public contest projects in the first half of this year, organized by various government ministries and Gyeongnam Province, securing a total project cost of 43 billion KRW (24.8 billion KRW in national and provincial funds).
This represents a 1.7-fold increase in the number of selected projects and more than a 2.4-fold increase in total project funds compared to the same period last year (25 projects, 16.9 billion KRW), which is evaluated as a result of focusing on discovering local issue projects aligned with policy directions.
Major selected projects in the first half include the Geoje Shipbuilding Hope Center operation project (2 billion KRW), region-led youth job creation project (5.4 billion KRW), new middle-aged career-type job project (2.5 billion KRW), rural idle facility utilization startup support (1.4 billion KRW), Fishing Village New Deal 300 leading project (5.1 billion KRW), general agricultural and fishing village development project (5.1 billion KRW), and public sorting facility modernization project (4.7 billion KRW), attracting projects in various fields such as jobs, agriculture, fishing villages, welfare, and environment.
In addition, Geoje City plans to actively respond to new public contest projects in the second half of this year in line with the policy direction of the 'Korean New Deal 2.0.'
In particular, administrative efforts will be focused on preparing future local growth engines and solving citizens' long-standing issues through projects such as the smart specialization regional hub support project for innovation in the local shipbuilding industry and the Fishing Village New Deal 300 project for modernization and revitalization of fishing village infrastructure.
Mayor Byeon Gwang-yong said, "We will do our best to attract projects that citizens can feel through strategic analysis and preparation in the second half of this year as well."
