Gwangju Chamber of Commerce Hosts 'Gwangju-Jeonnam Development Project Contest' to Revitalize Local Economy

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman Jeong Changseon) is conducting the ‘Gwangju-Jeonnam Development Project Contest’ for local residents to discover ideas for revitalizing the regional economy.

According to Gwangju Chamber of Commerce on the 28th, the Gwangju-Jeonnam Development Project Contest was planned to discover creative and innovative projects from a new perspective to respond to the rapidly changing business environment and industrial structure amid the economic downturn caused by COVID-19, and to find future growth engines for the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions.

The contest will be held over 9 weeks from next month 2nd to September 30th, and anyone from the Gwangju-Jeonnam region, including university and graduate school professors (and university students), companies, government ministries and affiliated organizations, and employees of regional economic institutions, can participate individually or as a team.

The contest topics include any projects that lead to groundbreaking development in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region, regional development ideas, convergence of existing industries, SOC, expansion of cultural and tourism infrastructure, innovative job creation for youth, women, middle-aged, and silver generation, and other projects for regional development and economic revitalization.

In October, 10 outstanding projects will be selected, awarding 10 million KRW to 1 grand prize winner (team), 3 winners of 3 million KRW each for excellence awards, and 6 winners of 1 million KRW each for prizes.

To this end, separate external experts will be invited to hold the first and second rounds of judging.

The judging criteria will focus on ▲whether the project fits the contest theme and has ripple effects ▲whether the project is feasible ▲whether the idea is novel ▲and whether the proposal content is substantial.

Furthermore, excellent projects discovered through the contest will be reflected in the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce’s projects for the following year and proposed as regional development policy recommendations to government ministries or as pledges for the 2022 presidential and local elections.

Choi Jongman, Vice Chairman of the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce, said, “We expect many innovative and creative ideas that could not be thought of within the existing framework to be discovered,” and added, “We hope local residents actively propose the ideas they have been thinking about to contribute to revitalizing our regional economy and the development of Gwangju and Jeonnam.”

Meanwhile, those who wish to participate in the contest can check the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce website or contact the Planning and Research Headquarters.
