Prosecutors Request Arrest Warrant for Former Policy Advisor in Connection with Eun Soo-mi Investigation Data Leak

[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The prosecution has requested an arrest warrant for A, the former policy advisor to Eun Su-mi, Mayor of Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, who is suspected of bribery during the investigation into the leak of investigation materials related to Mayor Eun.

On the 16th, the Criminal Division 6 of Suwon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Byung-moon) filed an arrest warrant request against A on charges of bribery. The warrant hearing for A will be held at 2:30 p.m. on the same day at Suwon District Court.

The prosecution indicted police officer B at the end of March on charges of meeting with Mayor Eun's secretary and showing the investigation report in October 2018, when Mayor Eun was under investigation for violating the Political Funds Act. Through additional investigation, it is believed that B intervened in Seongnam City's interests in exchange for leaking the materials. During this process, it is reported that A, who was Mayor Eun's policy advisor at the time, was caught in circumstances suggesting that he gave bribes to B's side.

Accordingly, the prosecution obtained an arrest warrant from the court on the 14th, arrested A, and filed an arrest warrant request with the court on the same day. Earlier this month, the prosecution accelerated the investigation by arresting Seongnam City official C on charges of accepting bribes related to this case.
