Samsung Heavy Industries Embarks on Win-Win Management with Daesun Shipbuilding

Establishing Partnerships for Domestic Presidential Shipbuilding and the Latest Eco-Friendly & Smart Ship Technologies

Samsung Heavy Industries Embarks on Win-Win Management with Daesun Shipbuilding

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Samsung Heavy Industries is actively embarking on win-win management by establishing a partnership for cooperation in the latest eco-friendly and smart ship technologies with domestic medium-sized shipbuilders.

Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 7th that it has signed an agreement with Daesun Shipbuilding, a leading domestic medium-sized shipbuilder, regarding "research and technological cooperation in the shipbuilding and marine sector."

Through this agreement, Samsung Heavy Industries plans to support Daesun Shipbuilding in gaining technological competitiveness in the small and medium-sized vessel market by ▲exchanging design information on eco-friendly hull forms and fuel-saving devices ▲conducting model tests on ship hydrodynamic performance ▲sharing know-how on smart ship technologies.

In particular, if Samsung Heavy Industries expands the distribution of its independently developed smart ship system "SVESSEL" to the small and medium-sized vessel market, it is expected to further strengthen its competitiveness in smart ship technology.

As environmental regulations have recently been tightened in the shipbuilding and shipping industry, new hull forms that improve fuel efficiency and eco-friendly and smart ship technologies are being demanded even in the small and medium-sized vessel market. This technological cooperation is attracting attention as a new win-win model in the shipbuilding industry ecosystem.

Kim Hyun-jo, head of the Ship and Offshore Research Center at Samsung Heavy Industries, stated, "We hope that 'SVESSEL,' developed by Samsung Heavy Industries, will establish itself as a representative smart ship technology in the small and medium-sized vessel market," adding, "We plan to further activate technological exchanges between medium and large shipyards so that the Korean shipbuilding industry can continue to maintain its technological gap."
