Gochang-gun Selected as 'Best Institution' in Local Tax Collection Performance Evaluation

Gochang-gun Selected as 'Best Institution' in Local Tax Collection Performance Evaluation

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk Province (Governor Yu Gi-sang) announced on the 23rd that it was selected as the best institution for two consecutive years in the ‘2021 Jeonbuk Province Local Tax Collection Performance Evaluation’ following last year.

The county dominated other local governments in the comprehensive evaluation, which combined eight evaluation items including local tax collection rate (95.4%), tax revenue growth rate, vehicle tax delinquent vehicle license plate seizure performance, and public auction performance.

As a result, it secured the best institution selection for two consecutive years and a prize money of 17 million won.

In particular, the county has not lost its position as the best and excellent institution in local tax collection performance for the past 10 years, drawing envy from other local governments.

So far, it has received a total of 463 million won only in prize money (provincial funds), enhancing local finances as well as demonstrating excellent ability in local tax collection and raising the status of the residents.

Considering the difficult local economy this year due to COVID-19 and economic recession, the county is conducting taxpayer-tailored collection activities such as encouraging payment before seizure and providing delinquency disposition deferral to taxpayers who have difficulty making a living.

For high-amount and chronic delinquents, it is collecting concentrated delinquent taxes through strong administrative sanctions such as seizure of owned real estate and bonds and restrictions on licensed businesses.

Jo Jeong-ho, head of the Finance Department, said, “The selection as the best institution is the result of active efforts by all residents who faithfully fulfilled their tax obligations and the tax officials of towns, townships, and the county.” He added, “We will do our best to establish an advanced tax administration culture by strongly collecting chronic and habitual delinquencies for fair taxation and actively promoting various taxpayer convenience systems.”
