Gwangju Buk-gu Hosts Exhibition of Student Works from Namdo Local Food Museum Classes

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 7th that it will operate an exhibition of works by students of the Namdo Local Food Museum cooking class in the first half of this year and a special lecture titled ‘A Summer Delicacy Trip to Stimulate Appetite with Retirees.’


The exhibition of works by cooking class students will be held on the 10th and 11th at the Namdo Local Food Museum.


The exhibition will feature Namdo ritual food master No. 17 intangible cultural asset holder, teacher Min Kyungsook, fermentation food master instructor Kim Bonghwa, and Professor Kim Nahyeong of Howon University, who will showcase the elegance of Namdo local food and representative dishes of Gwangju.


Exhibited works include Namdo local foods such as bamboo shoot pickles, bellflower root kimchi, water parsley perilla seed stew, flower maejakgwa, and Spanish mackerel sweet and sour soup, as well as representative Gwangju dishes such as Gwangju hanjeongsik (traditional Korean full-course meal), Mudeungsan barley rice, Gwangju duck soup, Songjeong local grilled short rib patties, Gwangju rice balls, Gwangju lettuce tempura, and Gwangju yukjeon (pan-fried beef slices).


Meanwhile, Buk-gu will operate a special cooking class under the theme ‘A Summer Delicacy Trip to Stimulate Appetite with Retirees.’


The recruitment period for students is until the 6th of next month, targeting retirees aged 50 and over, and the tuition fee is free.


The course content includes practicing delicacies that stimulate the appetite, spicy and refreshing soup dishes, one-meal dishes, and snack recipes.


District Mayor Moon In said, “I hope that through the exhibition of students’ works, the taste and elegance of Namdo traditional food and the flavorful city of Gwangju will be widely known,” and added, “I hope the special summer lecture will be an opportunity to heal the body and mind tired from COVID-19.”
