[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, produced a congratulatory video message ahead of Couples' Day on the 21st.

This video was especially prepared to remind people of the importance of marital relationships and to wish for family happiness during these challenging times due to COVID-19.

First, Mayor Kim Seon-gap explained the meaning of Couples' Day, saying, "Couples' Day was designated as May 21 to symbolize two people in love becoming one."

He continued, "It is a precious bond that two people who did not know each other met and formed a family. I hope harmonious and affectionate couples remain forever," and added, "On a day like today, I hope you express a loving word of gratitude to your spouse who stays by your side."

He concluded the video by saying, "The COVID-19 situation is serious. For the happiness and safety of your family, at least one family member should get tested and actively participate in vaccination."

The Gwangjin-gu Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center is hosting various events that families can participate in together to celebrate Couples' Day.

Until the 21st, a 'Couples Photo and Acrostic Poem Contest' with the theme 'You, Me, and Us Together' is being held.

For the photo contest, participants can submit photos taken under the themes ▲Our moments of shared joys and hardships ▲Fish-shaped bun couples ▲Our loving relationship. For the acrostic poem contest, participants write fun and warm four-line poems on the theme 'Couples Together' and submit them via email.

Additionally, on June 11, a 'Couples Special Lecture' where couples can learn how to communicate and empathize with each other will be held along with the awards ceremony for the contest. Couples wishing to participate can apply on a first-come, first-served basis by the 28th.
