[Photo] Yudeokyeol, Dongdaemun-gu Mayor, Attends 41st Anniversary Seoul Event of 5.18 Minjung Uprising

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun District, attended the ‘5.18 People's Uprising 40+1st Anniversary Commemorative Seoul Event’ held at Seodaemun Prison History Hall on the morning of the 18th.

Mayor Yoo paid tribute to the spirits of the May 18 Democratic Movement by offering flowers and incense, and showed support for Myanmar with a three-finger salute symbolizing resistance against the Myanmar military junta.

This year’s 41st anniversary commemorative Seoul event for the May 18 Democratic Movement was named the 40+1st anniversary event, viewing it as an extension of last year’s event which was not properly held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The theme was chosen as ‘5.18 Supporting Myanmar Fighting Against the Military Coup.’

Mayor Yoo stated, “I sincerely thank those who do not turn away from the truth of Gwangju,” and added, “I sincerely support and actively back Myanmar fighting against the military coup.”
