President Moon appoints Prime Minister Kim Bu-gyeom and four ministers

In the Opposition's Opposition, the 30th to 32nd 'Passing Appointments'... People Power Party Holds Emergency Meeting in Front of Cheongwadae

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the 14th, President Moon Jae-in presented appointment letters to newly appointed Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, Minister of Science and ICT Im Hye-sook, and Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Noh Hyung-wook at the Blue House. Their terms begin from this day.

This marks the 30th to 32nd so-called 'opposition party bypass' appointments made without agreement from the opposition parties during the current administration, causing strong backlash from opposition parties such as the People Power Party. President Moon also presented appointment letters on this day to Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Moon Seung-wook and Minister of Employment and Labor Ahn Kyung-duk, who had already started their duties without opposition from the opposition parties.

The day before, the National Assembly, led by the Democratic Party of Korea, held a plenary session and passed the confirmation of Prime Minister Kim with 168 votes in favor, 5 against, 1 abstention, and 2 invalid votes. Additionally, the National Assembly’s Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee and Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee adopted the personnel hearing reports for Minister Im and Minister Noh, respectively. Earlier, candidate for Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Park Jun-young voluntarily withdrew after consultation with the Blue House.

The People Power Party held an emergency party meeting in front of the Blue House on the morning of the same day to criticize President Moon’s insistence on personnel appointments. After the meeting, they plan to deliver a protest letter to the Blue House. Floor spokesperson Jeon Ju-hye released a statement saying, "The Blue House and the Democratic Party are showing the end of arrogance and self-righteousness."
