The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission Initiates Agreements with 17 Metropolitan Governments Starting from Incheon
Triggered by LH Land Speculation Allegations... "Strengthening Anti-Corruption Measures"
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) has decided to strengthen anti-corruption and integrity measures in cooperation with local governments following suspicions of land speculation by employees of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH).
On the 19th, the ACRC announced that starting with Incheon Metropolitan City, it will sequentially sign business agreements with 17 metropolitan local governments nationwide to practice anti-corruption and integrity.
In the agreement with Incheon City, the ACRC agreed to mutually cooperate on public officials' integrity education, strengthening management of conflict of interest vulnerable areas, compliance with the public officials' code of conduct, and operation of systems to protect whistleblowers and public interest reporters. They plan to actively mediate and resolve residents' grievances, provide relief for civil rights and proactive administration through administrative appeals, and enhance cooperation and support for public institutions' integrity practices.
Previously, the ACRC announced plans to strengthen anti-corruption cooperation with local governments as one of the tasks to prevent moral hazard in public institutions, such as the 'LH incident.'
Jeon Hyun-hee, Chairperson of the ACRC, said, "To completely prevent the recurrence of the LH incident, restore trust in the public service, and quickly resolve citizens' difficulties amid the COVID-19 situation, cooperation between the government and local governments is more important than ever." Park Nam-chun, Mayor of Incheon City, said, "I hope this agreement will serve as an opportunity to enhance the integrity and fairness of the public service and promptly resolve citizens' difficulties."
