[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Asiana Airlines announced on the 9th that the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Singapore ruled that the in-flight meal provider Gate Gourmet Korea (GGK) must be compensated 42.4 billion KRW for in-flight meal payments.
Asiana Airlines explained, "The compensation includes in-flight meal payments, interest, and arbitration costs," and added, "Asiana Airlines' counterclaim was dismissed."
Although the ICC ruled in February this year to pay 32.4 billion KRW, the compensation increased as the period for calculating in-flight meal payments was extended from 14 months to 25 months. GGK, which supplies in-flight meals to Asiana Airlines, filed for arbitration with the ICC in 2019 due to differences in views with Asiana Airlines regarding the method of calculating in-flight meal supply payments.
Asiana Airlines plans to decide on compensation after legal review. If it disagrees with the ICC ruling, it can file a lawsuit in domestic courts.
