"Smooth Sailing for Baedal Teukgeup"... Cumulative Transaction Amount Reaches '13.3 Billion Won'

Gyeonggi Province's public delivery app, Baedal Teukgeup, created to support small business owners suffering from high fees and excessive advertising costs of private delivery apps, has accelerated in popularity, surpassing 220,000 registered members and a total cumulative transaction amount of 11.3 billion KRW just four months after its launch.

Baedal Teukgeup began its pilot service last December in three areas?Osan, Paju, and Hwaseong?aiming to be a win-win platform for both small business owners and consumers.

This year, the service area is set to expand beyond the pilot project to a total of 28 local governments in Gyeonggi Province. Starting with Pocheon City at the end of February, the service expanded to Gimpo City in March, Suwon City on the 1st, and Yangju City on the 8th, reaching a total of 10 regions.

Already boasting over 18,000 affiliated stores, Baedal Teukgeup currently has 220,000 registered members and has surpassed a total cumulative transaction amount of 13.3 billion KRW (as of April 6).

As the number of users increases, the response on the ground in local areas has also been enthusiastic, with merchants actively promoting Baedal Teukgeup on their own.

At a recently opened affiliated store in the Suwon area, the use of Baedal Teukgeup was encouraged through self-made banners and vehicle wrapping, while a cafe in Yangpyeong-gun provides customers who ordered through other private apps with self-produced coupons featuring the Baedal Teukgeup logo each time they deliver, promoting the app.

Due to various promotions, some places have already surpassed the use of existing private delivery apps. A Chinese restaurant in Hwaseong revealed that Baedal Teukgeup’s market share has exceeded that of Coupang Eats.

With active support from residents, Gyeonggi Province Corporation is also planning to provide tailored close-contact events for each region.

In Yeoncheon-gun, which has many military bases, collaboration with the bases is under review, and in Yangpyeong-gun, famous for its five-day markets, on-site coupons were provided to efficiently promote to consumers and small business owners.

Additionally, new town areas such as Hanam and Namyangju are planning to strengthen promotion through local community connections, industrial cities like Suwon and Anseong are promoting group orders linked with companies, and tourist destinations such as Gapyeong and Yangpyeong are considering linking Baedal Teukgeup with local tourism products.

Gyeonggi Province currently aims to revitalize the local economy and neighborhood commercial districts, as well as actively drive the use of local currency by promoting various regionally tailored new businesses.

Beyond local events, multiple directions are being explored to ensure the stable market establishment of Baedal Teukgeup.

First, by providing a function through the ‘Boss App’ that allows affiliated store owners, who benefit from low fees, to directly plan and offer consumer benefits, a system will be established to create a virtuous cycle structure between small business owners and consumers.

Meanwhile, Baedal Teukgeup is collaborating with affiliated stores to produce reusable containers and promote their use to encourage environmental protection and recycling. Under the leadership of Gyeonggi Province’s Fair Trade Bureau, once legislation on online business zones is enacted, Baedal Teukgeup plans to be the first to offer these services.
