[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] A detailed forensic investigation was conducted on the 8th to determine the cause of the Gwangju house collapse accident, which resulted in 4 casualties, including 2 deaths.
At 2 p.m. on the same day, the Gwangju Dongbu Police Station, along with institutions such as the National Forensic Service and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, conducted a joint investigation at the accident site.
At the scene, evidence related to the cause of the collapse, the safety of the design, and the construction details was collected.
At around 4:20 p.m. on the 4th, a roof collapse accident occurred at a 57㎡ wooden detached house reconstruction site in Gyelim-dong, Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City.
As a result of the accident, four people, including a construction company official, a material supplier, and two workers present at the site, were buried under the roof and other house structures but were rescued one after another. However, two people, including the supplier and a worker, died.
The preliminary autopsy results from the National Forensic Service indicated that the cause of death for the two was likely 'compressive asphyxia.'
At the time of the accident, demolition work was underway, removing all structures except the house frame and roof.
During this process, work was also carried out to reinforce the wooden frame with H-beam steel structures.
The police initially estimated that the collapse accident occurred as the roof load shifted to one side during the demolition work.
A police official stated, "It will take some time to accurately determine the cause of the accident. For now, we will focus on securing statements as soon as the health of the two survivors recovers."
