"Reduce Vinyl Shopping Bag Use, Increase Eco-Friendly Paper Bag Use"
Urban Nature-themed Eco-Friendly Shopping Mall to Experience Nature in the City
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] HDC I'Park Mall announced on the 8th that it has joined the Ministry of Environment's relay campaign 'GoGo Challenge.'
'GoGo Challenge' is a relay campaign started by the Ministry of Environment in January, where participants select one habit to avoid and one habit to practice in daily life to reduce disposable products and plastics. They then share their commitments on social networking services (SNS) and recommend the next participant.
I'Park Mall's participation in the GoGo Challenge was initiated upon nomination by Michelin Guide Korea. Through its official Instagram account, I'Park Mall pledged to reduce the use of plastic shopping bags in daily life and expand the use of eco-friendly paper shopping bags.
I'Park Mall stated, "In addition to activities to reduce plastic use and disposable products, we are practicing eco-friendly management across a wide range of areas such as eco-friendly architecture, energy saving, and greenhouse gas emission reduction, based on the main theme of 'Urban Nature' in the city."
I'Park Mall added, "Despite continuous expansion of sales area and sales growth since its completion in 2004, last year we reduced energy consumption by 33.2% compared to the average energy consumption over the previous 12 years." As a result of participating in government energy-saving policies through building an eco-friendly shopping environment, using high-efficiency equipment, and operating facilities efficiently, it received awards such as the '2019 Eco-friendly Construction Industry Award from the Minister of Environment,' the '2019 Korea Energy Award from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy,' and the '2020 Building Greenhouse Gas and Energy Excellence Case Sharing Meeting Award from the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.'
An I'Park Mall official said, "I'Park Mall provides eco-friendly spaces such as The Garden, Aquaring, and The Terrace, where visitors can experience nature in the city and enjoy rest and relaxation," adding, "Through participation in this GoGo Challenge, we will continue to expand various activities that can protect the environment."
