[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Former U.S. President Donald Trump sent letters to key Republican Party organizations demanding that his name and caricature not be used for political fundraising.
According to foreign media on the 6th (local time), Trump's lawyers sent letters simultaneously on the 5th to the Republican National Committee (RNC), the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) making this demand.
Trump is said to be angry that the Republican Party's major election organizations are fundraising for Republican lawmakers who voted in favor of his impeachment.
He cannot stand that his name and caricature are being used for Republican fundraising while the benefits of the fundraising go even to anti-Trump lawmakers within the Republican Party.
Trump is supporting campaigns for incumbent Republican lawmakers and candidates who support him in next year's midterm elections through the Republican super PAC (special political action committee) called "Save America."
Following the Democratic Party's impeachment motion against Trump and his departure from office, the Republican Party is currently experiencing internal strife divided between pro-Trump and anti-Trump factions.
Prominent anti-Trump figures within the party include Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, while pro-Trump figures include Senator Lindsey Graham.
Opposite the "Save America" super PAC supporting the Trump camp, a new super PAC called "Americans Keeping Country First" (AKCF) was recently launched and has started fundraising for Republican lawmakers who voted in favor of Trump's impeachment.
