Preparation for COVID-19 Pfizer Vaccine Supply
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] On the afternoon of the 25th, one day before the supply of the Pfizer vaccine, Jang Ha-yeon, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, visited the Central Vaccination Center set up at the National Medical Center in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, to inspect the police response system related to vaccine transportation, storage, and administration.
The Pfizer vaccine, which arrives in the country through Incheon International Airport on the 26th and is delivered to five vaccination centers nationwide including the National Medical Center, is known to have a short shelf life and requires storage in ultra-low temperature freezing facilities, making transportation and storage management complicated.
Reflecting these characteristics, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has launched a 24-hour safety management system, including the deployment of day and night mobile squads at vaccination centers and the placement of armed police officers during vaccination hours.
The police have established a Vaccination Support Headquarters to prepare for emergencies that may occur during the vaccine transportation → receipt and dispatch → storage → administration stages, conducted integrated government-wide simulated transport drills, held internal simulated exercises (FTX) assuming sudden situations such as vaccine theft, established a rapid response system for 112 emergency calls, and activated rapid response teams to ensure thorough preparedness.
Commissioner Jang emphasized, "As the COVID-19 vaccine is about to be administered for the first time, the Seoul Police will make every effort to prevent any accidents throughout the entire process from vaccine transportation to storage and administration."
