Customer Interest in Sustainable Consumption
Growing Attention to Plant-Based Foods
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Starbucks Coffee Korea launched four types of bakery items made with plant-based ingredients without eggs, milk, or butter on the 25th.
The "Rich Chocolate Fudge Cake" uses dark chocolate and soy milk. The "Real Potato Bagel" is made with organic flour, organic sugar, and domestically grown potatoes to enhance its savory flavor. The "Mexican Rice Burrito" was developed as a hearty meal replacement food with umami flavor by adding plant-based protein. The "Sweet Chili Olive Ciabatta" features a chewy texture with tofu crumble added.
Recently, Starbucks has been paying attention to the changing consumer preferences for plant-based foods globally and considers this a major trend. In particular, in line with Starbucks' carbon emission reduction plan, one of its sustainable corporate activities, plant-based foods are being introduced in several Asia-Pacific countries.
Starting with this plant-based food launch, Starbucks plans to continuously introduce plant-based food menus emphasizing sustainability throughout the year.
