600m Section from Hyochanggongwonap Station to Hyochanggongwon Decorated with Consecutive Taegeukgi Flags, Taegeukgi Tree Created... March 1st Movement Day Commemorative Video to Be Broadcast on YouTube
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] "The Taegeukgi flags hanging on the trees are colorful and pretty. Looking at them makes me feel a bit emotional, and the photos come out well, so I feel good."
This is the story of Park Min-seon (29), who visited Hyochang Park in Yongsan-gu on the 23rd.
Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) created a 'Manse Movement Taegeukgi Street' along the 600m section from Hyochang Park Station on Subway Line 6 to Hyochang Park to commemorate the 102nd anniversary of the March 1st Movement.
This was done so that residents can feel the spirit of the independence movement in their daily lives.
Using street trees, Taegeukgi flags were hung in a continuous line, and 28 'Taegeukgi Trees' were installed in front of the main gate of Hyochang Park (Changyeolmun). About 100 pinwheel Taegeukgi flags continuously spin in the flower beds on both sides of Changyeolmun.
A banner reading "1919. 3. 1. The shout of that day! We will not forget" was also hung on the pillars of Changyeolmun. Below the phrase are photos of patriotic martyrs including Baekbeom Kim Gu, Baek Jeong-gi, Ahn Jung-geun, Yun Bong-gil, Lee Dong-nyeong, Lee Bong-chang, Jo Seong-hwan, and Cha Ri-seok.
The Taegeukgi Street around Hyochang Park will be open until March 5.
An official from the district said, "Hyochang Park, where seven patriots including Baekbeom Kim Gu, the three martyrs (Lee Bong-chang, Yun Bong-gil, Baek Jeong-gi), and the Provisional Government figures (Lee Dong-nyeong, Jo Seong-hwan, Cha Ri-seok) are buried, is a representative historical and patriotic site of the Republic of Korea. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no separate events this year, but we hope visitors will come during this period to reflect on the patriotism of these ancestors."
The district will also hang Taegeukgi flags along major roads in the area. From February 27 to March 1, about 3,000 street flags will be displayed along 33 km of arterial roads.
Additionally, the district filmed a March 1st Movement commemorative video with 30 people including children, housewives, youth, heads of veterans' organizations, and public officials, which will be broadcast on the district office's YouTube channel and Yongsan i-TV on the 26th.
The filming locations include Hyochang Park, the Lee Bong-chang Patriot History Hall, the Yu Gwan-sun Memorial Monument, Yongsan Youth Center, and Hangang Citizen Park. The video contains each participant's reflections and wishes on the March 1st Movement. Groups of 3 to 4 people from each demographic also reenacted the Manse Movement.
Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, "The March 1st Movement was a historic resistance movement by our ancestors against Japanese colonial rule. We ask that every household also hang the Taegeukgi flag to commemorate the March 1st Movement."
