[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 2nd, the People Power Party demanded measures against the aides of Lee Gae-ho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, who held a drinking party at the National Assembly, calling it "embarrassing and shameful."

Hwang Gyu-hwan, the standing deputy spokesperson of the People Power Party, stated in a commentary on the 4th, "How can such an incident happen, considering what they think of the National Assembly? It is embarrassing and shameful in front of the people," expressing his opinion.

Earlier, some media reported that on the evening of the 2nd, when the 2021 budget bill was being actively processed in the plenary session, aides belonging to Lee's office held a drinking party in their office.

Deputy Spokesperson Hwang criticized, "Which aide would openly drink alcohol in the office while the plenary session is ongoing? If they were ordinary office workers, would it even be acceptable to hold a drinking party in their office?" He added, "This behavior tarnishes the faces of the majority of aides who work tirelessly with a sense of duty day and night."

He further said, "At this point, regarding Chairman Yoon Ho-jung of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee's remark to 'assist properly,' I want to turn it back to the aides themselves to first establish a basic attitude." He continued, "Before the Democratic Party talks about legislative aide qualification exams for those who quietly fulfill their duties, they should strictly discipline the aides in question who do not even recognize the meaning of the National Assembly or the basic attitude of aides."

Earlier, Chairman Yoon caused controversy by saying that legislative aide qualification exams are necessary, telling Kim Do-eup, the People Power Party's Legislation and Judiciary Committee secretary, to "assist properly."
