Achievement in organizing 2 million posters and 22,000 banners through collection reward system... Recruited 16,000 COVID-19 Hope Jobs to clean up over 16,000 illegal advertisements
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chaehyun Il) has been selected as an excellent autonomous district in the ‘2020 Seoul Outdoor Advertising Quality Improvement Evaluation’.
This evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of all outdoor advertising performance from September last year to August this year across 25 autonomous districts in Seoul.
It evaluated a total of 22 detailed indicators across 10 items in 3 categories, including fixed advertisements as well as maintenance performance of mobile advertisements such as banners and posters.
The district established a comprehensive maintenance plan for illegal advertisements and made efforts to operate programs such as the collection reward system, the Advertising 365 Monitoring Team, and the Illegal Advertisement Trace Erasing Project, achieving remarkable results in advertisement maintenance and crackdown.
As a result, Yeongdeungpo-gu received an excellent institution award along with budget support incentives for the 2021 signboard improvement project from Seoul City.
Through the ‘collection reward system,’ the district maintained 2 million posters and about 22,000 banners during the evaluation period. Additionally, after conducting a full survey of about 700 fixed signboards, it maintained about 170, leading the eradication of illegal advertisements.
Notably, this year, the district carried out a hope job illegal advertisement maintenance project to overcome COVID-19. By hiring hope job workers, it maintained about 16,000 illegal advertisements mainly in vulnerable areas around stations, also providing jobs to residents struggling with livelihoods due to COVID-19.
Moreover, through the operation of the ‘Advertising 365 Monitoring Team,’ the district improved the existing method of simply collecting habitual illegal advertisements to an on-site voluntary maintenance method that educates advertisers, guiding and maintaining about 2,900 illegal advertisements.
In addition, continuous crackdown activities such as special maintenance at night and on weekends, the project to erase advertisement traces that were messily attached to public facilities, installation of anti-illegal advertisement attachment boards, maintenance through a comprehensive survey of signboards in areas densely populated by Chinese-Korean residents, and the Yeongdeungpo-ro signboard improvement project were recognized for their continuous efforts to create a clean urban landscape.
Chaehyun Il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “I am proud that despite the COVID-19 crisis, our steady efforts to create a pleasant living environment have borne such fruit,” and added, “We will strive to eradicate illegal advertisements that harm urban aesthetics and safety to create an open Yeongdeungpo filled with streets where anyone wants to visit and walk.”
