Gwangju City Council Selected as Best Practice by Ministry of the Interior and Safety


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Gwangju Metropolitan Council (Chairman Kim Yong-jip) announced on the 30th that two cases, the "Gwangju Metropolitan City Support Ordinance for Reclusive Individuals" and the "Gwangju Metropolitan City Social Welfare Facility Audit Ordinance," were selected as excellent cases in the "2020 National Local Council Best Practice Competition" conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.


This best practice competition, held for the second time this year following last year, aims to discover and disseminate outstanding cases of legislative activities from metropolitan and basic local councils nationwide, sharing and spreading positive perceptions of local councils with the entire nation. Among the submissions from local councils across the country in six categories including autonomous legislation, regional economy, and regional issue resolution, these cases were selected as excellent cases awarded the Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation.


Among the 10 excellent cases that advanced to the finals, the "Gwangju Metropolitan City Support Ordinance for Reclusive Individuals" was recognized as the first ordinance of its kind nationwide, establishing a legal basis to enable reclusive individuals to live humanely as members of society.


Additionally, the "Gwangju Metropolitan City Social Welfare Facility Audit Ordinance" also received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation. It was highly evaluated for being the first ordinance nationwide to establish an audit system for social welfare facilities, thereby enhancing transparency in the operation of social welfare facilities through institutional improvements and system establishment.
