The group BTS won two awards at the American Music Awards. On the 22nd (local time), at the ceremony held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, USA, they were announced as winners of the 'Favorite Pop/Rock Duo or Group' and 'Favorite Social Artist' categories. Unable to attend due to the spread of COVID-19, they shared their thoughts via video. RM said, "I sincerely thank you for your continuous support and love during the uncertain and challenging past year." J-Hope stated, "We want to remain a group that offers comfort through music even in difficult times."

The American Music Awards, established in 1974, is a prestigious American popular music awards ceremony. Winners are determined by fan votes. The 'Favorite Pop/Rock Duo or Group' is one of the major categories. BTS was the first non-English speaking artist to win the trophy last year. This year, they earned the honor again, beating strong contenders such as the Jonas Brothers and Maroon 5. In the 'Favorite Social Artist' category, which is decided based on social media influence and popularity, they have won for three consecutive years since its inception in 2018.

On this day, BTS performed their new song "Life Goes On" for the first time. It is the title track of their new album "BE," released on the 20th, and it resonates deeply with the emotions experienced during the COVID-19 era. The performance was staged as if it were a world tour concert at the Jamsil Olympic Stadium. The audience was filled with a purple wave symbolizing their fandom. This year's world tour, which was supposed to start here, was canceled due to the spread of COVID-19. BTS eased the disappointment by closing the ceremony with their August release "Dynamite." Their American Music Awards performance marked their first U.S. TV debut stage in three years since "DNA" in 2017.

Having won both the Billboard Awards and the American Music Awards, BTS now only has the Grammy Awards, the most prestigious of the three major U.S. music awards, left to conquer. The nominees will be announced on the 24th. The Grammy Awards, which reflect votes from members of the Recording Academy, faced criticism last year for excluding BTS from the nominees. This year, having left a strong impression by topping the U.S. Billboard singles chart for three weeks, they are expected to be nominated.
