Becoming Korea's Leading 'Safe Workplace' Through Continuous Innovation by Members
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Jeju Samdasoo is becoming a leading safe workplace in Korea through the continuous efforts of its employees for innovation.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Development Corporation, which produces and sells Jeju Samdasoo, announced on the 29th that the Jeju Samdasoo factory has obtained the ‘Safety Zone Certification’ that certifies the safety level of the facility.
Jeju Samdasoo is the first in the bottled water industry to acquire the Safety Zone Certification.
The ‘Safety Zone Certification’ is a corporate voluntary safety evaluation system that certifies the safety level by comprehensively evaluating the design, construction, and management status of the workplace to promote the safety mindset of management for desirable safety management and to provide systematic and efficient management and direction of safety facilities. It is supervised by the Fire Agency and organized by the Korea Safety Certification Institute.
The certification evaluation involves top experts in disaster prevention safety, architectural structure, fire-fighting equipment, and disaster prevention fields. Upon certification, benefits include exemption from special fire inspections for 2 years, exemption from comprehensive precision inspections (self-inspections) for 2 years, additional points for the Korea Safety Award, which boasts the highest authority in the safety field in Korea, and the awarding of a certificate and certification plaque jointly issued by the Fire Agency and the Korea Safety Certification Institute.
Prior to this, Jeju Development Corporation recently acquired the international standard for Business Continuity Management System (ISO 22301), which enables the normalization of operations in the shortest time possible in case of various accidents or disasters.
The Business Continuity Management System is an international standard supervised by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It refers to a management system that establishes prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery strategies and plans to ensure business continuity by normalizing corporate activities in the shortest time when core operations of an organization are interrupted due to various accidents or disasters.
The corporation is accelerating the establishment of a safety culture by acquiring ISO 22301 and Safety Zone Certification this year, following last year’s ISO 45001 certification for Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
Kim Jeong-hak, President of Jeju Development Corporation, stated, “Learning from the unfortunate safety accident that occurred at the previous Samdasoo factory, our employees are making their best efforts to establish a safety culture,” and added, “We will always remain vigilant and innovate so that the pride of being the nation’s bottled water is reflected in safety as well.”
