"Finally Compared to Sewol Ferry 7 Hours... An Outrageous Matter"
Kim Jong-in "A Disaster Born from Moon Government's Security Failures"
Ahn Cheol-soo "How Is This Different from Sewol Ferry 7 Hours"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] As the opposition criticized the government's response to the incident in which a North Korean soldier shot and mutilated the body of a Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries official, Lee Mo (47), No Woong-rae, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party of Korea, raised his voice, saying, "They couldn't say a word against former President Park Geun-hye, but now they are attacking with forced fabrications."
No said in a post on his Facebook on the 25th, "Have Ahn Cheol-soo and Kim Jong-in ever once asked former President Park to clarify the 7 hours?"
He added, "The North's brutal killing of our official is a matter that deserves condemnation," but criticized, "The opposition once again used this tragic incident as political prey to launch an offensive against the president."
He continued, "They even compared it to the Sewol ferry's 7 hours and demanded the president's whereabouts be disclosed minute by minute," adding, "It is truly outrageous."
No explained, "It is unreasonable to simply compare the president's missing 7 hours while dozens of children were submerged in our territorial waters with the sudden shooting of a person who crossed into North Korean territory."
He also said, "I understand Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, trying to look good to the People Power Party, and Kim Jong-in, emergency committee chairman embarrassed by the National Foundation Day rally, seeking a breakthrough," but criticized again, "No matter how much political ambition blinds you, you must compare what is comparable."
Meanwhile, the opposition issued an official statement on the same day, criticizing the government's response to the incident. Chairman Kim said, "This incident is a national disaster caused by the Moon Jae-in administration's overall security failure," and demanded, "The reasons for President Moon's 47 hours of silence and details of the response measures must be fully disclosed."
Leader Ahn also wrote on Facebook the day before (24th), "How is this different from the Sewol ferry's 7 hours?" and strongly criticized, saying, "My blood boils."
He continued, "North Korean soldiers committed a heinous act by shooting our citizen and even burning the body," and questioned, "Our military reportedly took no action and just stood by watching the tragedy. Does the Republic of Korea Armed Forces have the will to protect its people?"
He added, "In short, it is a lamentable matter," and "What is even more lamentable is that the Blue House was informed and the president knew about it, yet gave a speech on the UN declaration of the end of the war, which is outrageous."
