"KT Healthcare Solution Launches 'VR-Based Non-Face-to-Face Eye Examination'"

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] By wearing virtual reality (VR) devices, it is possible to conduct ophthalmic examinations such as vision, color blindness, astigmatism, and macular degeneration without visiting an eye clinic. Various eye diseases such as glaucoma and strabismus can be examined remotely, enabling early diagnosis.

KT announced on the 24th that it has signed a business agreement with Korea University Medical Center Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and digital healthcare startup M2S to develop such technology.

The first result of the collaboration among the three companies is the so-called 'non-face-to-face ophthalmic examination solution.' KT will launch it through Super VR at the end of September, and the name is ‘EYE Dr. Lite.’ It was developed by M2S with medical technology advice from Korea University Medical Center. Super VR users can check their current eye condition precisely and conveniently like playing a game by simply wearing the Super VR device without visiting an eye clinic through ‘EYE Dr. Lite.’

This service provides a total of six ophthalmic examination protocols, including vision, color blindness, astigmatism, and macular degeneration. Through this, early diagnosis of various eye diseases such as glaucoma, strabismus, and dacryoadenitis is possible. Additionally, based on the examination results, it offers video content and eye exercise programs to maintain eye health. Users can accumulate and manage data using a mobile app, making it easy to manage their eye health.

As the use of digital devices increases and the onset age of senile eye diseases gradually lowers, the three companies plan to activate the ‘EYE Dr. Lite’ service so that users of all ages can easily manage their eye health in daily life. Kim Hoon-bae, Executive Vice President and Head of KT Customer Business Division, said, “By combining KT’s immersive media technology with the medical expertise of Korea University Medical Center and M2S, we can present more innovative ICT-based healthcare services,” adding, “We will continue to expand the immersive media field in various areas and discover business opportunities to contribute to improving the quality of life of the people.”
