Haman-gun Holds Autumn 'Seokjeon Daeje' Ceremony at Chilwon Hyanggyo

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Ham-an County, Gyeongnam announced on the 21st that the Chilwon Hyanggyo Autumn Seokjeon Daeje (釋奠大祭) was held at the Dae Seongjeon of Chilwon Hyanggyo in Yongsan-ri, Chilwon-eup.

The ceremony was held with the attendance of about 20 people, including Ham-an County Governor Jo Geun-je, local Confucian scholars, etc. Governor Jo served as the chief ritual officer (Chohyeong-gwan), Jeon Ho-yeol, Chilwon-eup Mayor, and Hwang Dong-geun, a Confucian student, served as the secondary ritual officer (Ahyeong-gwan) and the final ritual officer (Jonghyeong-gwan), respectively, performing the rites with due respect to honor the meaning.

The Seokjeon Daeje is designated as Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 85, enshrining the spirit tablets of Confucius and his disciples who inherited and developed Confucianism. To reflect on the spirit of the sages and promote Confucian values, the ceremony is held twice a year in spring and autumn.
