[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Korea Labor-Management Development Foundation signed a business agreement with the Tourism and Leisure Human Resources Development Committee on the 17th to provide career transition support services for workers in the tourism industry.
The tourism and leisure industry was the first sector to be hit hard by the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Due to a sharp decline in foreign tourists, the number of businesses temporarily closing or shutting down increased, causing employment insecurity among related workers.
Through this agreement, the two organizations plan to jointly develop programs to support career transitions for retired workers in the tourism industry and assist reemployment through the 12 nationwide Middle-aged Job Hope Centers operated by the Korea Labor-Management Development Foundation.
Secretary General Jung Hyung-woo stated, "Workers in the tourism industry are facing difficulties due to COVID-19, and especially the anxiety and suffering of middle-aged individuals who are responsible for their households' livelihoods are inevitably greater. We will actively support their swift reemployment through the Middle-aged Job Hope Centers."
Following the agreement, the Korea Labor-Management Development Foundation will conduct a "Small-scale Lodging Operation Specialist" course from the 18th to the 23rd in Busan for those scheduled to retire from the tourism industry. One-on-one consulting and club activities will be provided to help participants leverage their job experience in the tourism sector to enter related fields.
The Korea Labor-Management Development Foundation and the Tourism and Leisure Human Resources Development Committee plan to support career transition services for tourism industry workers in the Jeju area, starting with a joint briefing session for hotel officials in Jeju on the 15th of next month.
