[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] More than half of the city was damaged, with 300,000 people losing their homes, due to the massive explosion disaster that occurred on the 4th (local time) in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.


According to Beirut authorities, the damage is estimated to exceed 3 billion dollars (3.57 trillion won). Mawan Aboud, Governor of Beirut, told AFP on the 5th, "250,000 to 300,000 people lost their homes, and the damage is expected to reach 3 to 5 billion dollars (5.94 trillion won)," adding, "More than half of the city was damaged by the explosion disaster."


Earlier, the Lebanese Red Cross (equivalent to the Red Cross) estimated that the death toll from this accident exceeded 100, and the number of injured surpassed 4,000.


On the morning following the explosion disaster, search and rescue operations are currently underway amid wailing in Beirut. The Lebanese Red Cross explained, "Our team is still conducting search and rescue operations in the surrounding areas," stating that there are still victims under debris caused by the explosion.
