Instructed Cheongwadae Aides to Support Abused Children... "Situation Management Not Possible During Remote Classes"
[Asia Economy reporters Ryu Jeong-min and Son Seon-hee] President Moon Jae-in expressed his sorrow regarding the child abuse case in Changnyeong, Gyeongnam, and once again emphasized the need to establish a protection system.
Kang Min-seok, spokesperson for the Blue House, said on the 16th, "President Moon Jae-in expressed regret that such a serious situation occurred in the Changnyeong child abuse case, yet the child’s crisis was not recognized. He instructed his aides to meet the child and take measures to comfort and support them."
Kim Yeon-myeong, senior secretary for social affairs at the Blue House, decided to send Park Kyung-mi, education secretary, and Kim Yu-im, women and family secretary, to the site if it is judged that the child’s condition allows for an interview.
Spokesperson Kang pointed out, "Under normal school attendance circumstances, schools and authorities frequently check the situation when children are absent without permission and manage at-risk children," adding, "However, due to COVID-19, children have been staying at home longer, and during remote classes, there has been a lack of situation management."
Spokesperson Kang explained, "Previously, President Moon instructed that since the possibility of child abuse increased during the Cheonan child abuse death case, more proactive efforts must be made to find children in crisis," and added, "Yesterday, President Moon once again instructed that a system to protect abused children must be thoroughly established without any gaps."
