Pohang City Establishes Integrated Monitoring System for Odor Surveillance in Steel Industrial Complex

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Pohang City, Gyeongsangbuk-do, announced on the 5th that it will promote an integrated monitoring construction project in response to the recent sharp increase in odor complaints in the steel industrial complex.

Pohang City plans to install an odor prediction modeling system equipped with a meteorological modeling system, tracking model, and result display system at a total of 18 points by August, including eight workplaces within the steel industrial complex and ten nearby residential areas, with a project cost of 500 million KRW.

By installing the IoT integrated odor monitoring system, the city intends to strengthen management of workplaces by tracking the emission paths of odors emitted from the steel industrial complex in real time, while also establishing an integrated network of air and odor measurement data to understand the impact on surrounding residential areas.

Shin Gujung, head of the Environmental Policy Division of Pohang City, stated, "Through prompt and accurate responses to odor complaints, the long-standing odor issues will be resolved, and the quality of life for residents in nearby areas will be dramatically improved."
