‘Geumjangbok’ Visits... Social Workers' Wise Strategies to Overcome ‘Corona’

Busan Geumjeong-gu Disabled Welfare Center, Delivering Gift Packages, Sending Videos, and Making Calls

‘Geumjangbok’ Visits... Social Workers' Wise Strategies to Overcome ‘Corona’ A social worker at the Busan Geumjeong-gu Disabled Welfare Center is delivering gift packages to the homes of facility users as part of the "Geumjangbok Visits" program.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] “Dear people with disabilities, ‘Geumjangbok’ is coming to you.”

Busan Geumjeong-gu Disabled Welfare Center has a ‘well-thought-out plan’ for people with disabilities who are going through especially difficult times due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). Geumjangbok is a nickname derived from the initials of Geumjeong-gu Disabled Welfare Center.

As the use of the welfare center was restricted due to COVID-19, they had prepared a hidden card for welfare center users who were experiencing emotional difficulties.

Geumjangbok is carrying out a customized social distancing project called ‘Geumjangbok is Coming to You’ by delivering support services aimed at emotional stability and various program kits.

Since last April, various program kits such as companion plant kits, craft kits, and plant cultivation kits have been gifted to program users. Customized rehabilitation textbooks and rehabilitation videos were provided to language rehabilitation and physical rehabilitation users, and learning tools were created and delivered to vocational adaptation trainees and day care facility users respectively. This ensured continuous services at home despite COVID-19.

One welfare center user said, “I couldn’t go out and felt frustrated and lonely, but Geumjangbok often called and visited me, which helped me forget my worries.” Another user said, “I was very grateful that they remembered and helped me.”

Geumjangbok’s customized social distancing project ‘Geumjangbok is Coming to You’ is said to continue without rest until the end of June.
