[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The total amount of emergency disaster relief funds distributed to the entire population due to the COVID-19 pandemic has exceeded 13 trillion won, with about 97% of all eligible households having received the funds.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 28th, from the 4th to the 27th of this month, 21.02 million households received the emergency disaster relief funds, totaling 13.2486 trillion won.
Among the 21.71 million eligible households, 96.8% have received the support funds, and 93.0% of the budget of 14.2448 trillion won has been disbursed.
On the previous day, the 27th, 200,000 households applied for and received emergency disaster relief funds amounting to 120.5 billion won.
By payment method (cumulative), 14.45 million households (66.5% of the total) applied for credit/debit card charging. The amount paid was 9.5063 trillion won.
Next were cash payments to 2.86 million households (13.2%) totaling 1.301 trillion won, prepaid cards to 2.27 million households (10.4%) totaling 1.4875 trillion won, and local love gift certificates to 1.45 million households (6.7%) totaling 953.8 billion won.
Applications for emergency disaster relief funds via credit/debit card charging are accepted on each card company’s website and affiliated bank branches until June 5. Households that received the funds on credit/debit cards and moved to another metropolitan local government after the payment reference date of March 29 can apply for a usage area change through the card company starting June 4.
Applications for local love gift certificates and prepaid cards through eup/myeon/dong community service centers will continue to be accepted after that. Whether the day-based system continues varies depending on each local government’s circumstances.
