UN Command: "Cannot definitively determine intentionality in North Korean Army GP shooting incident"

[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu Reporter] The United Nations Command announced the investigation results of the shooting incident at the guard post (GP) in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) involving North Korean troops on the 3rd, concluding that both South and North Korea violated the armistice agreement. Furthermore, it stated that it cannot definitively determine whether the shooting was intentional.

On the 26th, the UN Command investigation team announced that it concluded the North Korean troops violated the armistice agreement by firing four rounds from a 14.5mm small firearm at 7:41 a.m. on the 3rd from a North Korean post located north of the Military Demarcation Line toward the South Korean UN Command Post 250.

A UN Command official added, "However, it could not be definitively determined whether the four shots were intentional or accidental."

Additionally, the investigation team pointed out that South Korea's firing and warning broadcasts in response to the North Korean small arms fire also constitute a violation of the armistice agreement.

This investigation, led by the UN Command multinational special investigation team, was conducted with active cooperation from the South Korean military, and although information was requested from the North Korean military, no official response was provided.
