[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 26th that it has been selected for the Hana Financial Group's public-private partnership national and public daycare center support project for two consecutive years.
This project is a social contribution initiative jointly promoted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and Hana Financial Group from 2018 to this year, aimed at increasing the utilization rate of public childcare and addressing low birth rates.
With this selection, Buk-gu plans to relocate and newly build the Taebong Daycare Center in Yangsan-dong, where childcare demand is increasing, by March 2022, with a total project cost of 3 billion KRW, including 2.1 billion KRW from Hana Financial Group support funds, 800 million KRW from national and city funds, and 100 million KRW from district funds.
The Taebong Daycare Center located in Sinan-dong was completed in 1983 and urgently needed reconstruction due to building aging and safety issues.
After relocating and rebuilding the Taebong Daycare Center, Buk-gu plans to expand the daycare capacity from 84 to 150 children and operate it as an integrated daycare center for both general children and children with disabilities.
District Mayor Moon In said, "To strengthen the public nature of childcare and provide high-quality services, building public childcare infrastructure must come first," and added, "We will continue to expand national and public daycare centers to create a public childcare foundation that parents can trust."
Meanwhile, last year, Buk-gu secured a total project budget of 2.1 billion KRW through Hana Financial Group's national and public daycare center support project contest and is also promoting the relocation and reconstruction of the Jungheung National and Public Daycare Center, aiming to open in March next year.
