Galaxy Infinite Reboot Error in China... Due to 'Yundal'

Error in Lunar Calendar Display in Some Countries
Error Occurred as 'Yundal' Started from May 23
Models Released Before August Last Year Need System Update

Galaxy Infinite Reboot Error in China... Due to 'Yundal' A bug causing Galaxy smartphones to enter infinite reboot loops and display the recovery screen has occurred in China. This system issue happened on models that did not receive system updates after the leap month began. (Photo by Weibo)

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] It has been revealed that the bug causing Galaxy smartphones in China to enter infinite reboot loops was due to the 'leap month.'

On the 25th, Galaxy smartphone users on Chinese social networking services such as Weibo experienced their screens turning black and repeated rebooting. This phenomenon was reported on models including the Galaxy S8, S9, S10, and A60.

The error occurring in Chinese smartphones is due to the leap month added this year. The leap month is an artificially added month to correct discrepancies in the lunar calendar. This year is a leap year with a leap month, where April 23 in the solar calendar corresponds to April 1 in the lunar calendar, but with the leap month starting on May 23, the lunar date returns to April 1 again.

This system error was found to occur only in China and Vietnam, where the lunar calendar can be displayed on the smartphone lock screen. Samsung Electronics explained that from the 'Galaxy Note10' released in August last year, leap month-related functions were applied, but earlier models require a separate update.

Samsung Electronics stated, "We provided a system update in 2019, but the problem occurred on devices that did not apply the update, and we are addressing it through call centers and A/S centers."
