[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Sohn Hak-kyu, Standing Election Committee Chairman of the Minsaengdang, criticized Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, on the 10th for saying that “the People’s Party made a great decision to give up constituency nominations after receiving a request not to split the opposition votes,” stating that “(Leader Ahn) has revealed his true conservative colors” and that it was “an explicit expression of an opposition alliance with the United Future Party.”

At the Central Election Committee meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Sohn said, “Now it is clear to everyone that Ahn Cheol-soo’s party is a satellite proportional representation party of the United Future Party. Ultimately, it will be absorbed and merged into the United Future Party,” adding, “We must never give votes to Ahn Cheol-soo’s party, which is reverting to a two-party system.”

He targeted the People’s Party, saying, “Is a party that does not field constituency candidates but only proportional representation candidates in the National Assembly election a democratic party?” and pointed out, “It is a direct denial of parliamentary democracy.”

He continued, “Leader Ahn himself runs alone and asks the people for votes,” adding, “Marathon is a sport where many people run together. Unless it is an election for the president of a solo running association, asking for votes in an election unrelated to solo running while running alone is a complete comedy.”

Sohn said, “This general election is a choice between whether our politics will return to four years ago or move forward into the future,” and earnestly appealed, “I sincerely ask the people to choose number 3, Minsaengdang, which is not a trick satellite party, not number 1 or 2 representing regression to the past.”

He added, “Especially in the proportional representation election, please exclude trick and illegal satellite parties and choose Minsaengdang at the very top.”
