[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 3rd that it will hold a public contest for the ‘Resident Participatory Budget Proposal Project,’ which reflects residents' opinions in the budget planning process and ensures transparency in local finances.
The Resident Participatory Budget Project, which allows any resident of Dong-gu to directly participate in the budget planning process, is divided into two categories: district administrative issues and local issues, with a total project budget of 750 million KRW.
First, the district administrative issues category allows proposals for resident requests and pending projects related to residential environment and public facility improvements that apply to the entire district or two or more neighborhoods, with support of up to 50 million KRW per project within a total budget of 600 million KRW.
The local issues category supports up to 20 million KRW per project within a total budget of 150 million KRW through the Resident Participatory Budget Regional Meetings organized by each neighborhood.
Dong-gu will review the submitted proposals through the relevant departments and the Resident Participatory Budget Committee, hold a residents' general meeting to prioritize projects, and then reflect them in next year’s main budget after the council’s budget review.
Proposals can be submitted by downloading the application form from the Dong-gu website or the Dong-gu mobile app ‘Dudream,’ filling it out, and submitting it directly to the Planning and Budget Office of the district office or the neighborhood administrative welfare center by the 29th, or by mail, email, or fax.
Mayor Im Taek of Dong-gu said, “The Resident Participatory Budget Project contest is meaningful because it allows residents’ ideas to be directly reflected in district administration,” and added, “We hope many innovative and creative projects that are essential to our district will be proposed.”
