[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] A newborn baby born to a pregnant woman diagnosed with the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) tested negative in diagnostic tests.
According to Daegu City on the 8th, as of midnight, among the 5,378 confirmed cases in the region, there are 6 pregnant women and 1 woman in labor.
The woman in labor gave birth on the 6th of this month at Fatima Hospital, designated as a delivery medical institution. The newborn tested negative for COVID-19.
All 6 pregnant women are staying either at home or at a residential treatment center in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. It is known that all pregnant women have mild symptoms and no particular problems.
Health authorities believe that there is no 'vertical transmission' of COVID-19 from mother to fetus. Kim Shin-woo, head of the Infectious Disease Control Support Group of Daegu City, said, "Pregnant women are worried, but there is data showing that when 9 infected pregnant women in Wuhan, China gave birth, there were no particular problems," and added, "Although COVID-19 is not yet fully understood, there have been no special reports related to pregnant women such as malformations or stillbirths."
